Soccer...
I guess I never actually told you all that Jake and I aren't playing Soccer anymore.
Why? Well, it goes like this:
Our team (the Fulton County Community Christian School ..."FCCCS") gave us sports forms to sign...like most teams do when you want to play for them.
Physical papers, Parent's approval papers...stuff like that. But then we received this one particular "paper" that we were required to sign in order to play for the Christian school. A paper of "faith beliefs".
The school Jake and I were playing for is a Protestant school.
Now, they welcome homeschoolers, which is good, but our Catholic faith became an obstacle when we were given this "paper" to sign. I won't go into the details (as they're kind of complicated), but all-in-all the paper's "faith requirements" contradicted our own Catholic beliefs so we weren't comfortable signing the paper.
We tried to work things out with the team managers and calmly attempted to find a way where we could avoid signing the "paper" as it was written and perhaps add a line or two that would allow us to include our own background. No solution was found. It turned out that we had to sign the form"as is" if we wanted to play soccer.
So, as a result, Jake and I quit the team. We realized we couldn't sign the paper for two reasons:
1.) Signing the form would be willingly denying what we truly believe in (lying)
and
2.) We didn't want to play for a team that did not welcome other faiths. Basically being prejudice (if you will) against any other but their own...which isn't, in my opinion, very fair or sportsmanlike at all.
One of the main rights in America is freedom of religion. Furthermore, the requirements of the team didn't, to me, have any real purpose at all except to create unnecessary authority.
I mean, if the kids who want to join the team are decent and don't bring up any quarrels or disagreements with the other players (in this case concerning their beliefs) then why shouldn't they be allowed to play?
Anyway, I'm kind of glad we left the team. Now that I see what they call a 'necessity' I don't even know if I would want to play for them at all.
I'll miss soccer and the friends we made on the team last year. But, Jake and I might give "Track" a shot if all goes well. We'll have to see what our Dad thinks and work things out. I'll let you know :)
(P.S - Please scroll down to the post below! Especially you, Maddie! ;)
